Frequently Asked Questions

you may have a lot of questions about booking live music. Here are answers to some of the more common questions we get asked.

What sort of events do you play for?
You name it!  Weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, festivals of all sorts, swing dances, house concerts, holiday parties, wine maker dinners, fund raisers and benefits.  Call or email Dawn to discuss how our entertainment could set the perfect mood at your celebration.

We're doing a 20's/flapper themed party? Can you play appropriate music?
Can we ever!  We love playing for 20's/30's/40's themed parties -so much fun! We'll put together a special selection of period appropriate songs and can even come in period inspired dress!

Do you have a sample song list?  Do you take requests?

Here you go.  We encourage you to ask your guests ahead of time if they have any requests, hearing 'their song' can add a special touch an evening, and we love being able to play requests for people.  If there is something you would like to hear that’s not on that list, please ask us, we may know it or be able to learn it.  “Non jazz” songs we take on a case by case basis, if it is something that won’t sound good with our instrumentation, but that you’d still like to hear, we’re happy to play a CD through our P.A. system.

Will your music be too loud during dinner?
We hate to shout over noise as much as you do! We pride ourselves in playing appropriately for the moment, i.e. ‘lively celebratory’ music during cocktail hour and dancing, and softer more mellow sounds during dinner so your guests can visit with one another.

Do you have a microphone we can use for toasts and announcements?
We'll bring a wireless microphone for any announcements or toasts you would like to occur. During our breaks we play CD’s or an ipod (our’s or yours) through the system. And we’ll do as little or as much MC’ing as you“d like.

Can you still play if there isn't piano at the venue?
While nothing can compare to the sound and elegance of a real piano, we have a high end, realistic sounding keyboard we use on the majority of our engagements. We can also arrange for the rental of a piano.

What is required to hold the date?
To hold the date, we typically ask for 25% with a returned contract, with the balance due 2 weeks prior to the event.

We'd like music at both our wedding reception and ceremony, but the ceremony is outside and the reception is in the ballroom.  How do you handle that?

Contact Dawn and we'll discuss the logistics of your day.  One thing we don't like to do is move our equipment and interrupt the flow of the party, so we've come up with some solutions for this common scenario.  Often what we will do is have an acoutic or minimally amplified trio (usually guitar, bass and horn) perform for the ceremony, while the P.A. speakers, keyboard etc. are set up in the reception area.
